La Mesa Cuzzo Life

I finally got a taste of the horrible traffic in San Diego everyone kept warning me about.  Being in Carlsbad which is about 30 miles north of the city and heading down to San Diego a couple times this week it took me over an hour to get down to the city, no matter what time of day it was.  I left at 3pm, 5pm it didn't matter it was bumper to bumper.  It seems as though the major issue is that there is only one major highway to get most places.  Now I am starting to realize why people live in their little neighborhood and never leave, they don't want to deal with the traffic!  I have to make sure wherever I get a job it is in an area I want to live in  or close to where I want to live to avoid this traffic problem.

I finished up the week hiking Los Penaquintos Canyon Nature Preserve which was a pretty lush area with creeks and a waterfall.  The area was tucked in a suburban area and overall a pretty easy hike.  I also went back to the Meet-up "Thinking While Drinking" and brought my friend Leighann who officially moved here this week.  She was inspired after watching my journey cross-country and decided to pack up her car and do the same.  She was able to land a job doing interior design and I am super excited to have her here.  The topic for night was 'Is there a real you?' The discussion focused on people's essence and whether or not experiences shape who a person is or you are pretty much born a certain way with a certain personality and really never change.  I really enjoy this group and the conversations are always really thought provoking.  I think that we are all born with personality traits and characteristics and the experiences we have over our life definitely help shape the person we become.  In what ways is yourself an "illusion" vs. what ways it is not?  Interesting to think about really.  Ego self vs actual self.

On Friday, I packed up and moved into Dana and Daniels in La Mesa.  La Mesa is about 15 minutes East of San Diego, much more convenient than Carlsbad!  On Friday night we were invited to Daniel's Aunt Crystal's new yacht that she is living on with her boyfriend Mike.  It's funny that Daniel calls them Aunt Crystal and Uncle Mike but they actually are younger than him, by two years.  The yacht is docked in Coronado and it was a 3 bedroom/2 bath beauty.  I don't know that a boat could replace living in a home for me personally, but I will be happy to come visit and enjoy their yacht!  They have the cutest miniature pincher named Tony that I pretty much snuggled with the entire night.  The dog not only wore a sweater but he loved to borough into blankets and sweaters, it was adorable!  Christmas was definitely in the air in Coronado with a boat light show and a gorgeous Christmas display at the Hotel Coronado and Loews Coronado Hotel.  I still think it's strange that it's December 5th right now but 70 degrees, doesn't feel right.  I must say but blood has gotten used to this weather pretty quickly because at night the temperature does drop to the mid-fifties and I am freezing, it feels like thirty.

On Sunday I went to my first NFL game!  I don't know how I have never been to a professional game before.  The tickets were super cheap and although we were in the nosebleed section we ended up going all the way up front and sitting wherever.  Unfortunately, the Chargers lost but we still had a great time.  Dana and Daniel go to every home game and the tailgate that they go to had some amazing food.  Scallops and steak.  Daniel's dad owns liquors stores in the area so everybody at the tailgate were liquor reps that bring all kinds of alcohol.  We didn't really want to drink too much so we showed up for the end of the tailgate while everything was winding down.  I am glad I got the opportunity to go because there is a strong possibility that the Chargers are moving to L.A. next year and that might have been my only chance to see them play in San Diego.

Song of the Day

"Take a Walk" Passion Pit.  I had been doing so much hiking and walking I figured I would pick this song.  Passion Pit is one of my favorites bands from a couple years back although I never really got into their most recent album.

"Young Blood" The Naked and Famous.  Although we mostly listened to hip-hop on the yacht I felt that this song was a yacht song and felt like it fit nicely with upscale Coronado.

"Got Money" Lil Wayne.  Dana and Daniel really like listening to hip-hop music and have been listening to some oldies that I used to listen to from way back and I have really been liking it.
