Carlsbad Hiker Chick

It was a rainy, cold weekend in San Diego.  I woke up on Saturday and headed to Imperial Beach to help the San Diego Coastkeeper beach clean-up.  Imperial Beach is very close to Tijuana and is supposedly one of dirty beaches because a lot of stuff that washes ashore is from Tijuana.  I have to say beach clean-ups require a sharp eye.  The kelp along the beach was my go to spot.  Once you picked that up and moved it around you found pieces of plastic, cigarette butts, and trash.  I came no where close to filling my trash bag, which I suppose was a good thing!  I enjoyed watching all the beach workout classes going on up and down the beach.  Moms with strollers, weight lifters, volleyball players.  Afterwards, I walked around the town which seemed very touristy.

On Sunday morning I said my final goodbyes to OB.  I took a final walk to the dog beach and got a nice acai playa bowl which I ate at Sunset Cliffs.  I said my final goodbyes my "roommate", her friend that was throwing up all night, her dog, the dog she was dog-sitting, I think I said good-bye to everyone...😂.  It then started raining pretty heavily so I had to cancel plans for my one hike and head to Carlsbad.  I decided to hike Lake Calavera which has an inactive volcano along the trail.  I arrived to Kelly's townhouse around 5 and we got acquainted.  She is super busy working as a teacher and taking classes at night to get her Masters.  We went out to dinner together and called it an early night.  On Monday, I saw all of "downtown" Carlsbad.  There is a long sea wall walking path that leads to a small little village.  I walked the sea wall and watched a group of surfers for most of the morning.  I then walked all through the village and checked out some of the shops.  I had lunch at the Swami cafe and had another acai playa bowl, my new favorite thing!

Monday night I took the "long" drive from Carlsbad back downtown to meet up with a member of my Max family from Toms River one of the coaches, Mark.  I only say it's a long drive because I am so used to being right in the city and Carlsbad is about 30 minutes north of downtown San Diego.  Mark is a pilot and was flying in for a couple days.  I have discussed the Max before on this blog and I can honestly say it is the one thing I miss the most about being home besides family and friends.  I would go to that class every morning at 7am and get motivation from these people.  If anything they gave me the confidence to know that I could do this trip.  I could make it on my own, out there meeting new people.  It was fun to hang with Mark outside the gym and shoot the breeze.  We ended up going to this bar that was having a game night with bingo, Connect Four, Family Feud, and Catchphrase.  The entire Gaslamp district was dead so we were some of the only people in the bar winning all the candy and 'red-headed slut shots' we didn't even want.

Tuesday I was back on the trail in Ramona headed to Cedar Creek Falls or the Devil's Punchbowl.  This was the hike I was going to do Sunday but the rain postponed it.  I found this article that lists the ten best hikes in  San Diego and I am trying to do them all.  The hikes are rated in the article.  I was nervous about this hike because it was rated more challenging than Potato Chip Rock which I was definitely huffing and puffing during parts of.  I thought this hike was actually much easier than Potato Chip Rock.  Either I am getting better at this or somebody made a mistake.  The Devil's Punchbowl was suppose to be a waterfall but it was more like a trickle because San Diego is in a drought.  I thought maybe because it rained for three days there would have been more of  waterfall but there wasn't.

I spent the evening in the town of Encinitas. I have heard from a couple different people that if I were to live in North County Encinitas would be the place to be.  It reminded me of Long Beach Island but more chic, like Asbury Park.  Small boutiques, bier gardens, and fancy restaurants.  I definitely liked the area but would be curious if its more families vs. young professionals.  After being in OB for two weeks it was a nice change of scenery for sure.  Kelly's townhouse has a pool and hot tub so I came home and relaxed in the hot tub before bed.

Wednesday was another hike, this time in San Marcos.  Double Peak trail which overlooks all of North County with ocean views.  I am going to try to hike for the remainder of the week and head to Dana and Daniel's Friday night.  Kelly and I had sushi for dinner at home and relaxed.

Sorry ya'll I know its been a couple days but I am not sure what to talk about, I feel like I am just listing things that I did.  Don't worry its going to be an action packed couple days so hopefully this writer's block will pass... AROO WOOO!!!!

Song of the Day

"Africa" Toto.  This song is featured in the show Stranger Things.  This show is set in the 80's and has a great soundtrack.  I chose this song because it is my great friend Rob's favorite song and I really like it too!

"Solsbury Hill" Peter Gabriel.  This song seemed like a nice transition from Toto's Africa.  I also think that this song belongs in a town like Carlsbad.

"We Run The Night (feat. Pit Bull)" Havana Brown.  Mark chose this song because it was playing on the big screen at the bar during game night.

"Lake Michigan" Rogue Wave.  I chose this song because it was playing at the bar Monday night and I was planning to pick it until Mark chose the Havana Brown song.  This Rogue Wave song is an old one and I have always really liked it.

"Find Your Cloud" Papadosio.  I never listened to Papadosio.  I really have been enjoying the band Cbdb and Spotify told me since I like Cbdb, I would like Papadosio and they were right.
